Warranties

Delphi strongly recommend the review and strict adherence to the procedures detailed in the new compressor box whenever replacing a compressor or related items.

Delphi warrant to their direct purchasers for resale that all compressors are free from defects in material and workmanship. In both R-12 and R134a systems, the period of the warranty for Delphi branded new compressors on passenger cars and light trucks is one (1) year with unlimited mileage from the date of original installation. For commercial or heavy duty applications the term of warranty on these same new compressors is one (1) year/100,000miles. Delphi products will, at its option, repair, replace, or issue a credit (based on original net selling price) for such new compressors if proven within such period to be defective.

These warranties also apply to applications of new compressors when converting an OEM R-12 system to an R-134a system if the OEM conversion guidelines are followed.

Exceptions to the above stated warranty periods and additional conditions are as follows:

1.  Any new compressor identified as "R-12 only" when used on an OEM R-134a system is excluded
from all warranties either expressed or implied.

2.      The warranty for all new compressors is subject to the following additional conditions:

2.a In order to qualify for warranty, it is necessary to start the repair process with a clean AC system. A clean system can be accomplished by several methods: flushing, installation of inline filters, or component replacement. Warranty returns must be accompanied by a work order or parts receipt indicating that one of these methods was used to properly clean the system.

Flushing: In the case of catastrophic compressor failure, retrofitting, gross overcharge of oil or dye, water contamination, desiccant bag failure or blend refrigerant contamination, Delphi recommend AC system flushing to clean and remove debris, metal particles and the old lubricant. As stated below, components that cannot be successfully cleaned must be replaced. Several flushing methods can be used to properly clean the AC system prior to its repair.

Dura Flush 141b or a turpentine base flush, is an effective method to clean AC system
components when used with a flush cylinder and pressurized air. This method is acceptable
if an in-line filter is also installed during compression replacement.

Closed loop flushing with a power flush machine and the machine manufacturer's approved
solvent is an effective method to clean AC system components, this cleaning method is
utilized by major OEM's. The use of a turpentine flush is also approved on this method of
flushing.

Liquid refrigerant flushing with R-134a or R12 (depending on the system being repaired)
and an approved capture method is an effective method to clean AC system components
and is utilized by several major OEM's. This method is acceptable only if an A/C in-line filter
is also installed.

In-line filter: The installation of in-line filters in combination with compressor suction screens can be effective in trapping contaminants and does satisfy the terms and conditions of warranty (namely, that you start with a clean AC system). However, FLUSHING is strongly recommended, especially in instances such as retrofits or excessive contamination by any substance (such as water or dye) that would not be trapped by a regular screen type filter. The suction screens offer additional protection, but by themselves do not provide adequate system cleaning to fulfill warranty requirements. The in-line filter and compressor suction screen (if used) should be removed and inspected after a few days of operation, and cleaned or replaced if contaminates are found. Remember a contaminated filter or suction screen will cause a reduction of refrigerant flow and compressor lubrication, shortening the life of the new AC compressor.

Component replacement: Whichever cleaning method is used, many late model condensers, evaporators and hoses with built-in mufflers / expansion valves cannot be sufficiently cleaned by flushing. This is due to their small flow passages and / or "multi-flow" designs, which allow the cleaning agent to bypass the restriction. In these instances, contaminated or restricted components will have to be replaced in order to insure a clean and a properly performing AC system.

2.b The filter drier or accumulator must be replaced.

2.c If applicable, the orifice tube or liquid line containing the orifice tube must be replaced. If the liquid line with a built in orifice tube is not available, the installation of an orifice tube repair kit will satisfy the warranty requirements.

2.d The thermostatic expansion valve must be inspected and replaced or cleaned including the inlet screen, if so equipped

2.e The fins of the condenser and radiator must be checked for proper airflow or any obstructions or restrictions. In certain specified applications involved with compressor failures, it is recommended that the condenser be replaced.

2.f The fan clutch or electric fan must be checked for proper operation.

2.g The new compressor clutch's air gap must be checked prior to installation (refer to OEM or compressor manufacturer's specifications).

2.h The correct type and amount of refrigerant oil must be added (refer to OEM or compressor manufacturer's specifications).

2.i The compressor shaft (not just the clutch pulley) must be turned a minimum of ten times to clear oil from the compressor after the hose assembles have been attached. A spanner wrench maybe required to turn the compressor shaft over.

2.j The compressor clutch's electrical circuit must be checked for proper voltage (refer to OEM or compressor manufacturer's specifications).

2.k The entire A/C system must be evacuated for a minimum of forty-five minutes if the temperature is above eighty degrees. If the temperature is below eighty degrees or a dual air system is being serviced the minimum duration of the evacuation is sixty minutes.

2.1  The use of any refrigerant other than R-12 or R134a will void all warranties on any Delphi new
compressor returns.

2.2      The use of any A/C system sealant will void the new compressor warranty.

Returning a Compressor for Warranty Consideration:

A shop ticket or receipt must accompany the returned compressor and must show the installation on purchase of the filter-drier/accumulator, orifice tube/expansion valve (or thorough cleaning of the expansion valve) and the flushing of the A/C system components in conjunction with the installation of the new compressor. The shop ticket or receipt must further indicate the type of flushing agent used. If an in-line filter is utilized in place of flushing, this must be shown on the shop ticket or receipt. In the event of a new compressor failure, the purchaser must return the new compressor, along with the original shop ticket or receipt showing that the additional items were purchased and/or installed when the new compressor was installed. This warranty covers defects in material or workmanship only; it does not cover new compressor failure due to system contamination. Failure to follow the above requirements will void all warranties on the new compressor and all other components replaced at the time of compressor installation.
